New Site, New Plans, New Direction

@aleestrong

Hello Everyone,

I hope this letter is finding you well. The fact that anyone would read my stuff is bewildering to me. When I started back in September of 2019, I had no idea that people around the world would be reading my poetry and random creative endeavors. Back then, I didn’t quite have a direction I wanted this “thing” to go. I just wanted to write more regularly, and if anyone felt compelled by it, that’d be a plus. Here we are though, and I am incredibly humbled and grateful for each one of you — know that you are loved.

First off, new site and logo! I had a lot of frustration creating this new site because despite being Gen Z, I am not that tech-savvy. Nevertheless, I learned a lot from it and think it organizes my ideas a little better than the old site, plus I dig the earth-tone colors. The logo, my god, the logo! The incredible Alee Strong (@aleestrong) created this wonderful piece. The piece itself is amazing and recalls feelings of peace, joy, and presence every time I look at it. I hope you all enjoy the new setup and look as much as me.

Second, email list! I do understand that a lot of my followers simply want to look at my site when they wish and don’t want anything extra. However, I do believe this free email list will be something truly fun. I think it will create a good community with you all and allow you to receive more personal writings. In addition, I’ve got some really big projects swirling around in the thing I call my mind that will develop out of this email list with the help of you! In case you are worried about a flood of emails piling up in your inbox from a 21-year-old writer, do not fear, they’ll be sporadic at best haha.

Third and final, a new direction. By “new” I mean still going the same way with slight changes. I have had an internal battle with this blog. On one hand, I truly am a pen-to-paper person. I am working on getting some stuff published in magazines and books with the ultimate goal of getting my own poetry book published one day. On the other hand, I do keep some of my more “serious” works to myself and publish smaller pieces here on this blog. I think I will continue down this path, however, I think to those who join the email list might get to see some of my more passionate work. That is not to say the stuff I post here is not worked on hard or lacks passion because no writing is ever easy — especially sharing it with people. This blog, I hope, will be a creative brainstorm of fleshing out smaller ideas that hopefully develop into something bigger (whatever small and big mean). Also, I am going to try to steer away from more of my political side and just let the art itself convey what I hold dear — I’m sure you all might appreciate that haha. Also, I hope to take a stab at some creative fiction (short-stories and flash-fiction) which I am notoriously bad at, at least, in my opinion.

I am incredibly excited for what is to come. Thank you so much for following me. You are loved and cherished.

be free in the present,

Trace Maddox

P.S. Here is the email list again.
