Ego (holding on)

New poem on how the constriction of the self is caused by our attachment to the stories we think define who we are.

I don’t know quite what to say in times like these. Obviously, it is important to fight and speak against racism, that’s not quite what I am getting at (in terms of subject matter). It also feels weird to post something not exactly related to what is happening in our world right now because that’s all everyone is talking about and for good reason. In our current climate (that has been happening for thousands of years), I turn to the words and life of Ta-Nehisi Coates to better my understanding of the black experience in America — something I will never fully understand. I will seek to use my privilege against the pillaging of black bodies.
